Cold Harbor National Battlefield. Photos were taken During Spring of 2012.  Cold Harbor is located in the city of Mechanicsville and is the site of a major battle during the civil war. The Battlefield is now a park where visitors can go to see the trenches and sites of the battles and also has a very nice system of trails for hiking.

There are many great examples of native trees and plants in the park, a walk on any of the hiking trails will soon reveal the splendor of what Cold Harbor Park offers to its visitors. See mature hardwoods such as White and Red Oak and also rare plants like native Azaleas.

Cold Harbor Battlefield is open year round during daytime hours only and there are no fees for entering the park. The trail systems can be hiked in a day although it is quite extensive and I recommend taking two days unless you have a whole day, it is also a great place to get a quick run in if you live or work in nearby Mechanicsville.
